Evangelina Nieves, 75, passed away on August 6, 2022. Eva was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to Francisco Nieves (Coamo) and Demetria Nieves Ortiz (Toa Baja). Eva was preceded in death by her brother Francisco (Paquito), Arturo, and her younger sister Magda Leticia (Leti) Nieves. She is survived by her twin brother David Raul (Bayamon), Alfonso (Brockton), Gustavo (Carolina) and sister Julia Mejia (Brockton). Eva has lived in Brockton for the past 50 years and was a devout Catholic follower of Saint Patrick's church in Brockton and served the Latino community in doing rosaries for various occasions, parrandas during the Christmas holiday season. Along with her friends, she brought the Virgin Mary statue to the Brockton community to pray for the sick. They visited prisoners to listen and pray for them. As a certified Catholic Faith Educator, she gave CCD lessons on Sunday morning CCD to many Latino children. Eva loved reading, sewing, and dancing. She even won a dance competition. She also loved watching action movies and cartoons on the same night. Eva could make anyone with her laugh and get the party going because enough people were on the floor. Of her many accomplishments, none compared to her proud she was of her eight children. Eva Padilla (Fredie) of Florida, Barbara Lozada (Israel) of Florida, Luis Otero (Sonya) of New Jersey, Carmen Torres of Rhode Island, Leonardo Figueroa (Regina) of Maryland, Aurora Martinez (James) of Boston, Veronica Colon (Jose) of Everett and Aracelis Figueroa of Brockton. She had 25 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 11th at St. Patrick Church, 335 Main St., Brockton at 10:00 AM followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton.
