Obituary

Evelyn Giovannello, cherished sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the age of 91.

She was born to Edward "Walter" and Carrie Anderson in 1931 and grew up in Brockton, MA with brother Edward and sister Marjorie.

Evelyn graduated from Brockton High School in 1949 and held various jobs in her early years; everything from making candy to making fireworks! Her favorite job was Teaching Assistant at Brockton Public Schools. She worked in classrooms preparing lessons and materials and also acted as bus monitor, riding the bus with younger children to get them safely home. In her later years, she worked at HarborOne Bank, baking and handing out cookies as she greeted and talked with customers.

She married Dominic Giovannello in New York City in 1952, and they enjoyed 53 wonderful years together. She once described their marriage as a "honeymoon every day". They had four children, all born and raised in Brockton. As a talented seamstress, she prided herself on the beautiful clothing she often made for her children.

Evelyn was close to her family and every Saturday night was card games with siblings, aunts and uncles. She loved spending time in the kitchen preparing meals for family to enjoy, and no leftover ever went to waste! Evelyn loved warm weather, and spent many winters at her mobile home in Naples, FL, where she led an active lifestyle of swimming, biking, water aerobics, and community activities. She had many friends and they frequently gathered for parties and trips. Evelyn was a legendary dancer – the first on the dance floor and life of the party at every family wedding, senior center dance or backyard party. She was happiest with family and friends, good food, good music and a glass of red wine in her hand. Her favorite sport was bargain shopping, and she was a champ!

Evelyn leaves behind children Donna Brides and husband Gary, Dana Giovannello and wife Suzanne, Robert Giovannello and wife Christine and Nancy LaFratta and husband Paul. She is also survived by long-time companion Richard Bolduc. She was pre-deceased in death by husband Dominic Giovannello, and is survived by brother Edward Anderson and sister Marjorie Paparo, as well as many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was a loving Nana to 10 grandchildren, Sarah, Kristen, Michael, Melissa, Laura, Matthew, Sofia, David, Katelyn and Danielle and 14 great-grandchildren that she loved to spend time with.
