Obituary

Florence Marie (Bates) Bartlett, age 72, of Brockton, died August 9, 2013 at New England Sinai Hospital following a period of failing health. Marie was born in Nova Scotia, daughter of the late Joseph and Florence (Bourgeois) Bates. She was raised and educated in Dorchester and had been a resident of Brockton for the past 14 years. Marie was a collector who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Bingo, music and dancing.

Marie was the mother of Paul Bartlett, Jr. of Lynn, Gina Bartlett and Timothy Bartlett both of Brockton, and Michael Bartlett and Stephen Sweeney both of Cape Cod; sister of Janet Kennedy of Canada, Fredrick Bates of Dennisport, Valerie Foley of Hingham, and Richard Bates of Florida; grandmother of eight; great grandmother of 11; and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late David Bates and Dorothy Leone Toy.

Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday 9-11am followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Donations in Marie’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
