Floyd E. 'Skip' Derenberger, Jr., 68, of Brockton, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 at his home in Brockton.
Born January 3, 1947 in East Liverpool, Ohio, he was a son of the late Floyd E. Derenberger, Sr. and Esther (Thornley) Derenberger.
Skip joined the Navy in 1964 and served four years as Signalman aboard a re-commissioned World War II era black oil tanker that was extensively utilized for refueling ships all over the world. Skip was awarded Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and National Defense Service Medal during his service. Retired from the Navy, Skip worked as a Detective in Baltimore, Maryland. Moving to Brockton in 1975, he studied Criminal Justice at Northeastern University and became Store Detective for Bradlees Department Store at the Westgate Mall in Brockton.
Skip was an avid musician, playing the guitar and banjo. He loved to sing and play his music. He was also a great outdoors man. He loved camping and nature. Skip was an animal lover who had many pets in his lifetime. Some of his hobbies included family heritage, reading books and watching movies. He was very intelligent and had a great sense of humor. His most recent employer was Giannaros Package Store where he worked as store clerk.
He is survived by his children, Floyd E. Derenberger, III and Claude Scott Derenberger; his former wife, Kathleen Derenberger, siblings, Isabelle Havice, Esther (Jack) Mueller of Newark, Ohio, Nancy Grob of Amherst, Ohio, and Charles (Jennifer) Garey of Alliance, Ohio. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late June McCoy.

Calling hours will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 17th from 9:00AM-11:00AM followed by a graveside service in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
