Obituary

Fotios Pouliopoulos, 88, of Brockton, passed away on January 16, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Phyllis T. (Dinopoulos) Pouliopoulos for 61 years. Whether you called him Fred, Frank, Foti, Mr. P., Theo, Dad, Papou or Paps, you knew him to be a wonderful family man and a loyal friend. Fotios immigrated to the U.S. in 1959 in pursuit of the American Dream. He always said he had achieved that dream by raising a loving family and sending his two sons to college. He was always proud of his sons and even prouder of his five grandchildren. He was a hard worker, even during his almost 20 years in retirement. He seemed to be constantly in motion and always in a hurry to get stuff done. Fotios was always puttering in his garden, mowing his lawn, trimming the hedges, fixing things around the house, or bragging about his tomatoes, his children and his grandchildren. He loved a good laugh and loved to tell stories over coffee with his friends. Born on September 28, 1931, in Chrysavgi, Greece, he was the son of the late Dimitrios Pouliopoulos and Despina (Valkanos) Pouliopoulos. Fotios graduated from high school in Greece and served two years as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Hellenic Army. He was a longtime member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton. He began his career working in shoe factories in Brockton before a series of retail management jobs for companies like Christy's Markets, Mammoth Mart, King's Department Stores, and Marshall's Stores. He is survived by his wife, Pelagia "Phyllis" Pouliopoulos of Brockton; his son, James Pouliopoulos and his wife, Katherine of Westford; his son, Peter and his wife, Mary, of Manhattan Beach, CA; and his five grandchildren Alek, Katie, Sydney, Peli, and Dimitri. He is predeceased by his brother, Lazarus Pouliopoulos, and his sister, Ariadne Tzikolous. Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours Monday from 4:00-8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
