Frances (Grinkievich) Finnerty, 84, of Stoughton, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of William J. Finnerty, Jr. for 64 years.
Born December 31, 1931 in East Boston, she was the beloved daughter of the late Michael and Viktoria (Naslen) Grinkievich. She was raised and educated in East Boston graduating from East Boston High School in 1949. In 1962, Frances and her family moved to Stoughton where she became active in the community serving as a Precinct 3 Town Representative and President of the Sumner Gardens Womans Club.
During her lifetime, she had a vibrant and colorful career, beginning at Filenes Basement where she met the love of her life and then as a Dental Assistant for Dr. David Fasano of West Roxbury. She formerly owned her own small business, FranAFinns Gift Shoppe with locations in Lakeville, North Abington, and South Easton. Frances also worked for the Stoughton Chronicle and wrote her own Dear Abby esque column Tell It to Lynn. However, one of her favorite and most rewarding jobs was working as a Special Education Aide in both the Stoughton and Sharon Public School Systems.
Above all else, Frances cherished spending time with family, enjoying summers in Wareham and Falmouth, and cruising throughout the Caribbean with them. When she was with her loved ones she truly was at peace, and treasured nothing more than a sincere conversation over Sunday dinner, catching up on the news of her children and grandchildrens lives.
Frances was the matriarch of the family, a dutiful wife, kind and loving mother, and true Catholic woman in every sense of the word, firmly living up to the teachings of her faith. One of the highlights of her life was going to confession at St. Peters Basilica in Rome. She always found time to extend aid to those in trouble or distress, and made and retained the friendship with all of whom she came in contact. She will be sadly missed, but those who knew her rejoice that she is enjoying eternal rest from the long years of a well spent life on this earth. Her deeds will long live in the memory of her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Jeane LaCivita and her husband Carl of South Easton, Joan King and her husband George of Raynham, Jill Finnerty and her husband Tom DePalma of Taunton, and Jeffrey Finnerty of Stoughton; her grandchildren, Jacob LaCivita and wife Jessica of Texas, Seth LaCivita and wife Elizabeth of Plymouth, and Alexis LaCivita of California, Michael, Victoria, Veronica and Nicole King of Raynham, Jonathan and Christopher DePalma of Taunton, Jessica, Alex and McKenzie Finnerty of Stoughton; her great-grandchild, William LaCivita of Plymouth; and sister, Anna Lanciani of Stoughton.
