Frances Anita Chica (Fontes) Gainey, 83, of Brockton, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Brigham and Womens Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Walter S. Gainey, Jr for 53 years.
Born October 9, 1932 in Carver, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Fontes and Ella (Barros) Fontes. Frances attended Boston Schools.
Chica had worked in Medical Records and she was passionate about her reading of natural healing and was always willing to help her family with the wealth of knowledge she had acquired. She was a prayer warrior to all that were in need. She was a military homemaker and always providing for her family.
She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for over 30 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Thomas A. Gainey, William A. Gainey, Maria A. Kelly and the late Nancy R. Beard; grandmother of 16; great-grandmother of 8; great-great grandmother of 1; she is also survived by a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and other family members and friends. She was the sister of the late Mary Scott, Joseph Timas and Anthony Timas.
Funeral Information
Calling hours will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) BROCKTON on Thursday, September 1st from 4:00-8:00PM followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 8:00PM. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA 22211 on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 2pm.
