Obituary

Francis C. "Bob" Galante Francis C. "Bob" Galante , 92, of Brockton entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 10, 2009, at the Kindred Hospital in Stoughton. He was the beloved husband of the late Diana (Ferrini) Galante who passed away in February, 1991. Born in Brockton on August 28, 1916, he was the son of the late Carl Galante and Teresa (Ferrante) Galante. He was raised in West Bridgewater during the depression and was a 1937 graduate of Brockton High School. In 1939 he enlisted into the United States National Guard and during World War II, he was called to serve in the United States Army. He was a member of the 34th Infantry called the Red Bull Division. He was wounded in combat in Leghorn, Italy and received the Purple Heart. He was discharged on August 9, 1945. After his discharge, Bob drove an Eastern Mass bus and worked at his father-in-law's bakery, Superior Baking Company in Brockton. He was an important part of the creation of the cabinet company, Wood-Hu Kitchens - later becoming the company's President. He retired in August of 1981. In his youth, Bob was a star athlete, holding many records in track and was a professional gymnast, performing in many Brockton clubs. He joined the YMCA when he was 8 years old and was the longest standing member of the Y until his recent illness. He was a 40-year member of Thorny Lea Golf Club, earning the title of "Silver Senior Member." Fondly known as "Young Bobby Galante," he was married at the age of 23 to Diana, the love of his life. He is survived by his children, Cherie O'Brien of Marco Island, FL and Bruce Galante and his wife Gale (Gurney) of Brockton; his grandchildren to who he was the proud "Papa" of 4 granddaughters, Melissa (O'Brien) and her husband Dan DelSignore of Attleboro, Jessica (O'Brien) and her husband Nathan Moyle of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, Nicole (Galante) and her husband James Sfougaris of Brockton and Kendra (Galante) and her husband Anthony Ruscito of Quincy; his great-grandsons, Kyle DelSignore and Nathan Moyle. Bob will be greatly missed by his long-time companion, Eleanor Issa. He was the brother of the late Carl Galante and his wife Joy, Rose "Dolly" Silvestre and her late husband Anthony "Dunna" Silvestre and Ralph Galante and his wife Fran. He also leaves his sister-in-law Violet (Ferrini) Petrone and his brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Jacqueline Ferrini. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (RT123) Brockton on Thursday, May 14th at 8:00AM thence to Christ the King Parish/St. Coleman Church, 42 Wendell Ave., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 9:00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home Wednesday 4:00-7:00PM.
