Obituary

Frederick R. Cowan, Sr., age 88 of Brockton, died unexpectedly, December 17, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. Fred was the husband of the late Ruth I. (Willson) Cowan. Born, raised and educated in Boston, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Gleason) Cowan. Prior to marrying and moving his family to Brockton, Fred operated his own newspaper distribution service in and around Boston’s Back Bay area. He was an independent truck driver for local trucking companies and also worked for American Motors Corporation. Fred loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed playing cribbage at the Brockton Council on Aging.

Fred was the father of Fred R. Cowan, Jr. and his wife Lynne of Raynham and David Cowan of Taunton; grandfather of Amy Hodge of Raynham and Kathryn Porro of Bridgewater and brother of Thomas Cowan of Arlington and Margaret Stack of Brockton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. He was the father of the late William and Scott Cowan and brother in law of the late Lillian Willson.

Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday 10-11am, followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Boston.
