Gail Marie (Macdonald) Magrath's Obituary

Gail M. (MacDonald) Magrath, 70, of Bridgewater, Massachusetts passed away peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, June 15, 2023 after a valiant 11 month battle with brain cancer. Gail was born on December 12,1952 in Boston, Massachusetts. Gail was the daughter of the late William MacDonald and the surviving Lillian MacDonald Faust. Gail is survived by her husband of 51 years, Fred M. Magrath; her daughters Melissa Palmer and her husband Nathan, Lori Vlashi and her husband Nisi and her son Michael Magrath. She was a doting nana to Madeleine and Jack Palmer; Emma and Etem Vlashi. Gail also leaves behind her brother William MacDonald and his wife Jeanne, sister Lisa Plunkett and her husband Brian, and brother Eric Faust. Gail is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Gail was born and raised in Jamaica Plain (Boston) Massachusetts. She attended Blessed Sacrament School in Jamaica Plain. Gail and Fred met at the young age of 11. They were high school sweethearts who married on February 19,1972. They eventually moved to Stoughton, Massachusetts where they raised their three children. Gail worked as a product manager

for a medical supply company for 27 years before retiring in 2013. While working full time, raising 3 children, Gail attended night school and received her Associate's degree in Business. Gail enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. Some of her favorite destinations included Disney World, Aruba and Bermuda. Gail also enjoyed taking cruises to the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Canada with her husband. Gail's priority was always her family, her children and her grandchildren. She loved above all else spending time with her grandchildren, who affectionately called her 'nana'.

Gail's passion was helping any one and every one. She would always do for others before she would ever do for herself. It could be friends, family, complete strangers, but especially her grandchildren. Her grandchildren never needed or wanted for anything. Gail fought, struggled and suffered many complications over the past 11 months. Her brain cancer stole so much from her and so much of her. Fred was by her side, every single day, at every single appointment and at every single hospital and facility for the past 11 months. It was his commitment to her, 'for better or for worse and in sickness and in health', that gave her the strength and the will to fight. Even with all of the love from her husband, children and having access to the greatest doctors, hospitals and treatments, it wasn't enough to combat the rarity of a brain tumor and

cancer she had. Gail's legacy is that of selflessness, compassion and generosity. Her children will always remember the sacrifices she made to give them an amazing childhood. Her children will always remember how she loved and advocated unconditionally for them. Her grandchildren will never forget the happiest of times spent with their nana and the countless hugs and kisses she would shower them with. Her friends will never forget her goodness and warmhearted gestures and gifts.

In lieu of flowers, we ask you to consider making a donation to St. Jude's Hospital in Gail's name to carry on her legacy of kindness, empathy and compassion. https://www.stjude.org/
