Obituary

Gary R. “Buddy” Mercurio age 70 of Brockton, died Monday November 20, 2017 at Signature Healthcare after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Mary (Packard) Mercurio for 48 years. Gary was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan a son of the late Ralph and Myrtle (Barrows) Mercurio and was raised in Brockton. He had lived in Brockton for most of his life before moving to Raynham 2 years ago.

A 1965 graduate of Brockton High School, Gary retired in 2013 from the Brockton Highway department after 30 years of service. In his free time he enjoyed camping, wood working and watching history shows.

When his children were young, Gary was involved with coaching in Brockton Midget Football and the Downey Senior League and with the Boy Scouts. Gary especially enjoyed time with his family and was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

Gary was the father of Mary Sussmann and her husband James of East Bridgewater and Gary Mercurio, Jr. (BPD) and his wife Kathleen of Brockton. He was the grandfather of Emily and Kaley Sussman and Caitlin Maher and Ryan Frazier; and brother of Joyce Lacrosse of West Bridgewater and Nancy Canney of Conn. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass with be celebrated at St. Edith Stein Church, 71 E. Main Street, Brockton on Wednesday, November 29, at 9am. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38105.
