Obituary

George Edward Ettinger, 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Country Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center in Swansea, MA. He was the husband of the late Jack Croce, who he met in 1969 and married March 22, 2005. Born in Hyde Park, MA July 8, 1938, he was the son of George L. Ettinger and Violet (MacKenzie) Ettinger. George was a nurse and worked at the Veterans Hospital in Brockton for many years. It was the perfect profession for him as he loved to take care of people. He was a kind and generous man, one who would literally give you the shirt off his back. He also loved to buy sweet treats for those he knew, from the professionals who helped him to his family and friends.

George had a dry sense of humor that kept his fellow residents and staff at Christopher Heights, the assisted living community where he lived, laughing. They all enjoyed his company. George loved listening to opera and was the consummate cat lover. He and his husband Jack always had multiple cats, and he adored his most recent pets, Bandit and Snuggles.

George was the youngest of four boys, and is survived by his brother William of Southaven, MS, nieces, nephews and friends. He was also the brother of the late Merle Ettinger and Weldon Ettinger. Visiting hours will be held at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main Street, West Bridgewater, MA on Friday, March 8th from  4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, (MSPCA).
