George Santos Fontinha
, 86, of West Bridgewater, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Kindred Tower Hill Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Canton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Helen (Salvador) Fontinha.
Born August 24, 1925 in Attleboro, he was the son of the late Joseph Fontinha and Jacinta (Nacemento) Fontinha. George was raised in North Easton and was a resident of West Bridgewater for over 60 years.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked for the old Avon Sole in Avon and retired from the West Bridgewater School Department at the age of 62. In his younger years he loved fishing and gardening. George was always the gentleman, willing to lend a hand when needed. He was gifted with the ability to crack a smile at any time. George was a devoted Husband and Father.
He is survived by his children, Stephen Fontinha and his wife Rita of West Bridgewater, Janet (Fontinha) Norvish and her husband John and grandchildren, Joe and James Norvish of Middleboro and Elaine (Fontinha) Mannion and her husband Thomas and grandchildren, Sean and Brian Mannion of West Roxbury; His brothers, Anthony Fontinha of FL and Joseph Fontinha of Brockton; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Fontinha, Isabel Santos, Cecelia Vieiva, and Mary Dupont.

Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Friday, October 7th at 9:00AM thence to St. Ann's Church, 103 North Main St., West Bridgewater where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home Thursday 4:00-7:00PM.
