IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George
Stavropoulos
January 1, 1919 – February 9, 2025
George E. Stavropoulos, 83, of Brockton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the devoted and cherished husband of Lena (Georgiadou) Stavropoulos, with whom he shared 57 years of love, partnership, and countless beautiful memories, most recently celebrating their anniversary.
Born in Lefkothea Kozani, Greece, on June 20, 1941, George was the son of the late Evangelos and Elisabeth (Deliopoulos) Stavropoulos, and the brother to the late Stella Dalkouras and her late husband, Everett. Raised in Greece, George graduated in 1959 from the renowned boarding school in Tsotili Kozani. Shortly after, he proudly served in the Greek Army before marrying his love, Lena, in 1968. Together, they immigrated to the United States, settling in Brockton, where George worked tirelessly at Titleist Foot-Joy for over 50 years. He was a devoted member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, where he served as the Church's Cantor, also known as Psaltis, for over 40 years. He was also committed to preserving and celebrating Hellenic culture in the United States. When he first arrived, he was deeply involved in organizing Greek youth dance groups and soccer teams, as well as participating in the Pan Macedonian Alliance.
George's unwavering faith and devotion to his family defined his life. His deep love for Byzantine Chant led him to study it for many years. He cherished his annual trips back to Greece and found joy in gardening and golf. But his greatest joy was his family, particularly his three grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papou. He was always there for them and will continue to be in spirit.
In addition to his wife, Lena, George is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Karolemeas and Evangelia Stavropoulos; his grandchildren, George, Melena, and Demetri Karolemeas; his nephew, George Dalkouras and his wife Myrna of Danvers; as well as many nieces, nephews, and relatives both in the United States and in Greece.
Calling hours will be held in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton on Friday, February 14th from 4:00PM-7:00PM. A Funeral Service will be held in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on Saturday at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton, MA.
He will forever remain in our hearts. May his memory be eternal.
