Obituary

Geraldine "Ged" Gelinas Geraldine C. Gelinas, of Harwich, went home to the Father on July 28, 2009. Affectionately known as "Ged" to family and friends, she was born, raised and educated in Rockland graduating with the class of 1934 from Rockland High School. She resided in Rockland until her retirement as a Legal Secretary in 1970 when she relocated to the Cape to be near her sisters. The youngest of seven children of Emma (Gervais) and Omer Gelinas, she leaves a sister, Sister Cecilia Mary Gelinas of the Sisters of Charity of Convent Station, New Jersey. She was predeceased by brothers: George of Madison, CT and Peter of Hanover and Plymouth; Sisters: Josephine Hay of South Chatham, Harriet Erickson of Harwich, and Alice Peckham of Harwich. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families: George (Jay) Gelinas of Naples, FL, Gary Gelinas of Marietta, GA, Gail Gelinas Nixon of Orange, CT, Anne Marie Peckham Russell of West Harwich, Mary Peckham Shalgian of Rockland, David Peckham of Orlando, FL, Jack Peckham of Boston, Karen Gelinas McKenzie of Plymouth, and the late Michele Gelinas Flanders of Middleboro and Gerard Gelinas of Madison, CT. In her retirement she continued her enjoyment of the game of golf which she began playing in her twenties. She played with both the Nine and the Eighteen Hole Women at Cranberry Valley in Harwich. She also enjoyed travel with her sisters, following the Red Sox and Celtics, crossword puzzles, card games, annual trips to Foxwood, and a good joke. Her love for her family and their children and grandchildren was reciprocated in full. She was blessed with a strong faith, a loving family, good friends, and wonderful neighbors and caregivers. For many years she and her sisters were daily communicants of Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich. The family would like to thank Dr. Will Johnston and Dr. Jay Shackelford for their care for her over the years as well as the Bayada and Hospice Nurses for their compassion and kindness in her final illness. Funeral Information Funeral mass on Saturday, August 1st in Holy Trinity Church, West Harwich at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in the Gelinas Family Plot in Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland. Calling hours in the Doane, Beal, Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main St., West Harwich on Friday 4:00-7:00PM.
