Obituary

Gilbert Roy ("Gill") Solomon, 89, of Bridgewater, died at home on March 25, 2025, surrounded by family.

He was born and raised in Brockton, son of Rhoderick and Alice (Banks) Solomon. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1953, and attend Northwestern University.

Gill worked for Aetna Life & Casualty for over 30 years, beginning on the claims side and ultimately, in the 1980's, implementing and developing the company's Information Technology infrastructure and programs.

Gill enjoyed summers on Cape Cod with his family. He taught himself to sail. He also enjoyed photography, chess, working on cars, and all things computers.

Later in life, Gill was known as Feather on the Moon. He was the much loved Sachem of the Massachusett Tribe at Ponkapoag. Over the last 30 years, he worked for the recognition and preservation of the rights of the Tribe, as well as of other local nations. Among his many accomplishments was securing the donation to the Tribe of a tract of land within the original Ponkapoag Planation. This re-established the Tribe's practice of holding land in common, and maintaining connection to the land and each other.

A Memorial Gathering  will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., (Rt28) West Bridgewater on Sunday, June 1st from 1:00-3:00PM.

Gill is survived by his loving wife Deborah, his son William Rego, his daughters Janet Beaman and Suzanne Solomon, two sisters, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Russell & Pica Funeral Home in West Bridgewater on June 1, 2025.
