Guido Frederick Bonaparte, 93, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital. Born May 23, 1921 on Snow Street in Brockton he was the oldest child of Antonio G. Bonaparte and Gertrude (Tropea) Bonaparte. He was educated in the Brockton School System and graduated in 1939. In June of 1942 he was drafted by the U.S. Army and had his basic training at Ft. Knox in Kentucky. In June of 1944 his unit, the 34th Infantry (Red Bull Division) was sent to Italy to participate in the Rome/Arno River Campaign. Towards the end of the War he met Santina Passarello whom he married in 1947. They just celebrated their 67th anniversary on July 27th. He was employed as the head warehouse manager for Dunningtons Apothecaries for 37 years, retiring in 1987.
Guido was an accomplished violinist, playing in the BHS orchestra and numerous other groups including a square-dance band. His favorite pastime was photography which he pursued for the remainder of his life. He was a lifetime member of the Christopher Columbus Lodge of the Order of Sons of Italy. His other interests were fishing, stamp collecting, reading (especially history) and listening to music of all types.
In addition to his wife, Santina (Passarello) Bonaparte he is survived by his children, James Bonaparte of Brockton and Mary Jane (Bonaparte) Cerone of Arlington; grandchildren, Eleanor Bonaparte of West Springfield, Nicholas Bonaparte of Brockton and James Cerone of Arlington; siblings, Ida Lawrence of West Bridgewater, Louise Erickson of Brockton, Harold Bonaparte of West Wareham and Patricia Gillis of Norfolk. As well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Information
A Funeral Service will be held in the Russell & Pica Funera Home on Thursday, September 18th at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00PM - 7:00PM.
