Obituary

Harold W. Britton, 61, of East Bridgewater, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023, surrounded by his family. His passing was due to complications from a stroke he suffered ten days prior to his death. Born June 14, 1961, in Brockton, he was the son of the late Charlotte L. (Smith) and Russell D. Britton. He was a 1980 graduate of West Bridgewater High School. He was employed by Hallsmith-Sysco which later became Sysco LLC of Boston, Plympton location, from 1981 to present.

Harold was known to his family and friends as "Butch" or "Harry." In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and Sundays at "Camp" in Plymouth with his family. As an adult, Harry enjoyed trips to his property in Maine and summer vacations with his brother, Gene, riding their Harleys. He had an earnest appreciation for nature. He would always be on the lookout for signs of wild animal activity and tell us about his latest sightings. He enjoyed walking the family dogs on his daily visit to the family home. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading about history, politics, Sasquatch (Bigfoot), and "The Bridgewater Triangle." He also enjoyed watching old Western movies.

Harold was a third-generation member of the 49ers Club in Bridgewater. He was referred to as the club's "Official Helper," always ready to lend a hand. Harry played in the 49ers Bocce league for many years.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters: David R. Britton of West Bridgewater, Charles T. Tukis of West Bridgewater, Donna R. Richards and her husband Bruce of East Taunton, Frank A. Tukis of Middleboro, Dayle R. Britton of Raynham, Gene E. Britton and his wife Leslie of Hockley, TX, and Linda J. McDonald and her husband David of Gilmanton, NH.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Susan E. Anderson and her partner Marc Showstack, Holly J. Tukis, Paul M. Britton, Jamie L. Levine and her husband Matthew, Courtney R. Pulkinen and her husband Paul, Ashley B. Almeida and her husband Paul, Beth R. Major, Sally R. McDonald and Nora L. Britton, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by Allen Souza, partner of Charles Tukis and Donna Tukis, wife of Frank Tukis.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, May 13th from 9:00-11:00 AM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 S. Main St., (Rt. 28) West Bridgewater followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
