Harold "Fran" Francis Burke, 83, of East Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the beloved husband of Paula (Lindberg) Burke.
Born February 19,1939 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Harold F. Burke and Lena (Zarrella) Burke. Raised in Brockton, he graduated from Brockton High School in 1957 where he played baseball, (and played) basketball and softball for the City League. Fran then received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Stonehill College and went on to receive his Master's Degree. He also served in the United States Army.
Fran served on the Brockton Police Department for 32 years before retiring in 1997. Fran also ran The Skate Shop, worked at the Pembroke Rink and ran his own landscaping business.
He enjoyed coaching hockey for Brockton Youth Hockey and playing hockey for the Brockton Police Black and Blue Team. He loved to play golf and was a member of DW Field Golf Course.
In addition to his wife, Paula, Fran is survived by his sons, Steven Burke of Brockton, David Burke and his wife Maria of East Bridgewater and Kevin Burke and his wife Susan of Cromwell CT; his grandchildren, Matthew Burke, Brendan Burke, Keira Burke and Caroline Burke; his siblings, Tom Burke and his wife Sheila, Patricia Giovanello and her husband Tom, Roseanne Walsh and her husband Terry, Donna Austin and her husband Rob and Janice Leduc and her husband Rick; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Monday, February 28th at 9:00AM thence to St. Edith Stein Parish, 71 East Main St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:00AM. Private interment will be held at a later date at the VA National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours Sunday, February 27th in the funeral home from 2:00-4:00 PM.
