Obituary

Helen (Savilonis) Giovanello Helen (Savilonis) Giovanello , 99, life long resident of Brockton died Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital. She was the wife of the late Philip Radamus Giovanello. Born October 8, 1909 in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Savilonis and Christina (Wolongevicz) Savilonis. Raised and educated in Brockton she was a shoe worker for Diamond Shoe Co. of Brockton. She later retired from her assembly job for Handy Hannah. Helen enjoyed crocheting and knitting afghans, booties and Christmas stockings for her family and friends. With every stitch, she inserted her love and prayers for whoever would use them. Somehow, having one of Helen's afghans always brought a special comfort to snuggle or ease a pain. From the Boston Braves to the Red Sox, she was an avid fan, cheering on her team, never missing a game. A great thrill for her was when her grandchildren would call her from Gillette Stadium, between plays, for a recap. Everyone who was anyone had a Super Bowl XXXVI sweatshirt with Helen's face imposed on a Patriot uniform. Helen enjoyed her home and caring for her family. Everything she cooked tasted good, prepared with her seasoned fingers. She was a clever handywoman around the house, even able to fix the leaking water pipes with her personal soldering kit. She lived simply, and met life's challenges graced with patience, forgiveness, and a quiet acceptance of life's hardships. Other's errs were quickly forgotten and her unconditional love was ever present always. Her beautiful smile and gentle heart will be remembered fondly by those who loved and knew her. Helen and her sister, Vic, enjoyed many a trip with the Senior Citizens. She almost missed the bus on a trip to Washington, D.C. She was found wandering the far reaches of Arlington National Cemetery, looking for a Lithuanian soldier. Promptly at 8AM, any summer Sunday, you could find the sisters at Nantasket Beach, "getting their table" ready for the days' activities. The Trainor's cottage at Duxbury Beach was a haven for laughs, salt water, and lobsters. As the 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren entered the family, Helen's joys flourished. Many years of happiness were added to her life, enjoying the children and family festivities, always thinking of God and being grateful for such a richly blessed life. She is survived by her children, Philip Giovanello of Rockland, Joseph and his wife Lisa Giovanello and Virginia Giovanello both of Brockton; her daughter-in-law, Bridget Giovanello of Holbrook; her 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Peter Giovanello and the sister of the late Bernice McCarthy, Vincent Salvilonis, John Salvilonis, Peter Salvilonis and Victoria Marshall.
