Helen Holevas passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater. Helen was the wife of the late Steve Holevas.
Helen's beautiful story began on July 27, 1927 when she was born to parents Ioannis and Efthemia Holevas in Piraeus, Greece. She was one of five children; Katina of Athens, and the late Soterios, Vasilios, and Dimitrios.
Helen married her dear husband Soterios "Steve" Holevas, from Trikala, Greece in 1952. A year later, they immigrated to the United States to pursue their American dream. She attended night school to learn how to read and write in English. Although her education in Greece was curbed by the events of World War II, she was born brilliant and succeeded in all of her aspirations.
Helen was a talented master of Greek cuisine. She was known for her handmade Greek cheese and spinach pitas, which she crafted in a signature circular style. Given Helen's insatiable sweet tooth, it is no surprise that her rice pudding was legendary. She was also a very creative dressmaker who designed many beautiful fashions throughout her life.
Helen enjoyed traveling home to Greece to visit her sister, and vacationing with her family, especially her grandchildren. No matter where life took her, she was always happy to be present with the ones she loved. Over the past year while residing in a senior home, she could always be found chatting with her friends and proudly displaying photos of her family, with a big smile on her face.
Helen will always be remembered for her graceful approach to life; her genuine appreciation for the simple joys is her legacy.
Helen was predeceased by her doting husband Steve and her beloved son James "Jimmy" Holevas. Helen is survived by her devoted daughter and best friend Ethel Savas and son in law Spyros of Brockton, MA; her grandchildren Stephanie Landerholm and her husband Paul of Brockton, Christopher Savas and his wife Samantha of Windsor, CT, and Steven Holevas of North Andover, MA; and great-grandchildren Ellie, Autumn, and Riggs.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 23rd from 9:00-11:00 AM in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
