Helen Karafotias
, 96, of Brockton, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 in Sun City West, Arizona(her winter home) of natural causes.
A long time resident of Brockton, she was born in Hyde Park on February 11, 1913; she was the daughter of the late Marinos Karafotias and Demetra (Douva) Karafotias.
Helen lived a full and active life right up to her death, experiencing only a short illness that developed into pneumonia earlier this month. The Karafotias family moved to Brockton in 1926 where Helen completed high school, graduating from Brockton High School in 1929. She later graduated from Bryant and Stratton School of Business (today's Bryant College) with a degree in Accounting. In 1944, she began a long career of government service in the accounting department of Camp Miles Standish under the Administration of the War Department. She was transferred to the Copley Square facility in Boston and later to the Bedford Air Base-Hanscom Field, from which she retired in 1977 as Manager of Accounting and Finance.
In her retirement, Helen became an avid golfer and was a member of Thorny Lea Golf Club for many years. Helen was a lifelong member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton and a loving Aunt, being very close and supportive to her nieces and nephews throughout her life.
Helen is survived by immediate family members, her sister with whom she lived with; Bessie Jenkins; her brother, Christy Karr of Agawam; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late George Karafotias and his wife Mary and sister-in-law of the late Russell Jenkins.

Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Friday, March 27th at 11:00AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 12:00PM. The Rev. Anthony Evangelatos will officiate. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home Thursday 5:00-8:00PM.
