IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ida
Celia
January 17, 1921 – July 18, 2023
It is with deep sadness that the Celia family announce the passing of their dear aunt, Ida Celia.
Miss Celia passed away quietly in her sleep in the early morning of July 18.
A life-long resident of Brockton, she resided in the family home until she entered a long-term care home at 101 years old.
She was the daughter of Italian immigrants and the only daughter born to Saverio "Sam" Celia and Incoronata (Quaglietta) Celia. She had four brothers: Nick, Saverio "Sam", Quintino "Quito" and Mike. Mike passed away in 2013, leaving Ida as the last living member of her nuclear family.
Miss Celia attended school in Brockton but, due to her family still feeling the effects of the Great Depression, she decided to drop out of high school before graduating to financially help out her parents. After leaving school, Miss Celia was employed as a factory worker in the clothing industry in Brockton, where she developed skills to become a seamstress.
After retiring, she poured her energies into maintaining her family home, gardening, cooking and baking, all of which, for years, she did admirably until advancing age took its toll.
Those who knew her would agree that she was always a quiet, unassuming, warm, and caring woman who possessed a quiet strength. She also possessed the ability to roll with the punches in a gracious, yet stoic manner, amazing those within her circle until the day she passed. As prominent, also, was her deeply held value of the importance of family. It shined through in those moments when she accepted her fate and acknowledged that the inevitable was inevitable. During those times she would calmly express her happiness in knowing she would, once again, be reunited with her parents and brothers.
With her passing, the last chapter in her earthly life came to a close. For us who mourn for her, it also marked the end of the last link to our distant past when life seemed simpler, more carefree, and brighter. In our hearts, our aunt will live on in memories, especially so in those thought-filled nostalgic moments when our minds take us back to those times seeing her standing at her front door waving to us at the end of each and every visit.
Leave us, Aunt Ida, knowing that you are loved and missed as we now wave our final goodbye to you.
Miss Celia is survived by four nieces and two nephews: Sandra Tenenbaum, Marlene Celia, and Sam Celia, all residents of North Easton; Corinne Beals of East Bridgewater, Betty Ann LaFond of South Carolina, and Nick Celia of Avon.
Funeral Services were private.
