Ilda F. Lopes (100) of Raynham, MA passed away suddenly on November 16, 2023, at Morton Hospital in Taunton, MA. Ilda was born to Maria Nascimento Monteiro and Manuel Eduardo Fontes (Nene de Nha Sandjon) in the village of Cova Figueira, on the island of Fogo, Cabo Verde.

At 16 years of age (1939) she met and married the love of her life Augusto Lopes. They loved and adored one another and shared a special connection of God's perfect union for 84 blessed years. In 1986 along with her husband, she immigrated to the United States in pursuit of the American dream and settled in Brockton, MA.

She worked for Franklin Sports in Stoughton, MA until her retirement. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling back and forth to her motherland, Cape Verde and loved taking care of her grandchildren. She also loved telling jokes and sharing her childhood stories.

Ilda is survived by her beloved husband of 84 years, Augusto Lopes, and 8 children: Joao D.Lopes (Denxo) and wife Rita of Scituate, Guilhermina Gomes (Milu) of Holland, Maria Gomes (Nhay) of West Bridgewater, Edgar Lopes and wife Isabel of Brockton, Maria Cruz (Idulce) of Raynham, Emanuel Lopes (Necas) and wife Natalia of Bridgewater, Ramiro Lopes (Tutuca) and wife Sandra of Florida, Amarildes Fonseca and husband Terencio of East Providence. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 27 greatgrandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in passing by her son Jose Augusto Lopes and grandson John Lopes, her parents, brothers Pedrinho, Yaya, Leon, and sisters Fina, Panaxinha, and Nhabeira.

Visitation will be held at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont Street, Brockton on Tuesday November 21st from 4 to 7 pm. Her mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Edith Stein Parish, 71 East Main Street Brockton on Wednesday, November 22nd at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery 163 North Cary Street, Brockton.
