Obituary

Irene M. Payne, 88 years, died Sunday morning at the Brockton Hospital following a period of failing health. She was born in New Bedford, and raised in Boston. She was a graduate of South Boston High School. She had been a resident of Brockton for over 40 years. She was a former President of Boston College High School Mothers Club; she enjoyed collecting antiques, especially jewelry and glass. She was a former member of the Brockton Garden Club and had been a resident of St. Joseph Manor for the past several years.

She is survived by one brother James Kenneally of Brockton and several nieces and nephews. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Payne Sr., mother of the late Francis J. Payne, Jr. and sister of the late Josephine McKinnon.

A graveside service was held Wednesday in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
