Ivy M. Gillies age 86 of Brockton died Thursday April 9, 2015 at the Brockton Health Nursing Center after a period of failing health. She was the loving mother of Ena Bleech of Brockton. Ivy was born and raised in St. Mary, Jamaica a daughter of the late William and Amy (Leslie) Gillies. She came to the United States in the 1960s and had lived in Boston, Dorchester and Allston before moving to Brockton over 20 years ago and had lived in Madrid Square for 10 of those years.
Ivy retired as a food service supervisor at Brigham & Women’s Hospital after 40 years of service. She only stopped working due to illness. Before her illness, Ivy loved to travel. She also enjoyed reading, watching television, crossword puzzles and sewing. She was always ready to welcome company into her home.
In addition to her daughter Ena, Ivy is survived by 3 grandchildren Paul, Christopher and Deborah Gray and 7 great grandchildren Ariellle and Donovan Gray, Paul Gray, Jr., Christian, Preston, Gavin and Mason Gray. Ivy was the sister of the late Gwen Thomas and Daisy Delapenha.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (rte123) Brockton on Friday 9-11 am with a service to be held at 11 am. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
