James P. Callahan
, 71, of Bridgewater, a retired Brockton Police Officer, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Patricia J. (Kaseta) Callahan for 46 years.
Born August 15, 1939 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Walter J. Callahan and Helen M. (Verdone) Callahan. Born and raised in Brockton he graduated from Brockton High School. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam.
Jim became a Police Officer with the Brockton Police Department on April 14, 1970 and he then retired on April 24, 1998. Jim then worked for the Plymouth County Sheriffs office.
Jim was a member of the Bridgewater Lions Club for over 28 years and received the Melvin Jones Award on October 1, 1988. He was also a member of the Bridgewater Veteran's Club and the Brockton Police Relief Association. Jim enjoyed cooking for his family and friends and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed part-time bartending at the Pioneer Club in Taunton.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia J. (Kaseta) Callahan of Bridgewater, his children, Christopher J. Callahan and his wife Debra of Raynham and Cathleen M. Carroll and her husband William of Costa Rica; his grandchildren, Cassidy, Liam and Robert; his brother Joe Callahan of West Yarmouth; his sister-in-law, Joanne Wilkinson of FL; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert Callahan.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Thursday, April 21st at 11:30AM. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Bridgewater. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home Wednesday 3:00-8:00PM.
