James P. Cruise, Sr.
, 94, of Brockton, died peacefully at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital on Thursday, July 15, 2010. He was the loving husband of Kathryn (Orient) Cruise for 62 years.
James was born in Brockton on November 11, 1915, he was the son of the late Peter Cruise and Margaret (Hopkins) Cruise of Castlerea, County Roscommon and Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, Ireland.
Born and raised in Brockton, he was a graduate of Brockton High School Class of 1934 and remained a lifelong Brockton resident.
During World War II he was a Prisoner of War, as he served as a Staff Sergeant/Medic in the United States Army. His plane was shot down in 1943 in Albania where the 26 Medical Staff evaded the Germans for two months before their rescue.
James retired from the Brockton Post office in 1978 after 33 years as the Supervisor of Letter Carriers and was previously the Supervisor of the Campello and Montello Post Offices.
He was well known throughout Brockton and remembered by his often used expression "God Love Ya".
He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, Enterprise Club and Bertocci Memorial Club. He was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Brockton.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Kathryn (Orient) Cruise; his loving children, James P. Cruise, Jr. of Brockton, Thomas Cruise and his wife Kathleen of Canton and Patricia DiPasqua and her husband Leonard of Mattapoisett; his nine grandchildren, Patrick, Colleen, Katie, Holly, Jessie, Annie and Carly Cruise, Albert and James DiPasqua; his five great-grandchildren, Aiden and Manal Cruise, Cameron and Shane Dwyer and Halle DiPasqua; his two sisters, Mary (Cruise) Kennedy and Eileen (Cruise) McVarish; his brother, Thomas Cruise, O.M.I.; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William, Peter, and Joseph Cruise, Anna Connolly and Margaret McMenamy.

Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Thursday, July 22nd at 9:00AM thence to Christ the King Parish, 42 Wendell Ave., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home Wednesday 4:00-8:00PM.
