James M. Mahanna, Jr. (Jimmy), of Brockton, MA, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Born on March 25, 1934, in Avon, MA to James Mahanna Sr. and Louise (Puopolo) Mahanna. Jimmy was a devoted husband to the love of his life, the late Virginia A. (Mansour) Mahanna (Zena), with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Together they made Brockton their home, raising a loving family and creating a close-knit circle of friends.
Jimmy graduated from Brockton High School in 1951 and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1957, stationed in Okinawa, Japan and working within Military Intelligence.
He went on to study at Northeastern University and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
In 1960, Jimmy began his professional career at the Northrop Corporation in Norwood, MA, working in the Nortronics Division as a Project Controller and a Senior Financial Analyst. He dedicated 33 years to Northrop, retiring in 1992.
Following his retirement from Northrop, he worked as a substitute teacher for the Brockton School Department for 23 years. He gave back to his community by serving as the Treasurer for the Lebanon American National Club of Brockton.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Linda Casey and her husband John of Brockton, MA; his son, Michael Mahanna and his wife Theresa of Pomfret Center, CT. Proud grandfather to David Casey and his companion Christine Gill, Patrick Casey and his wife Gina, Christopher Casey, James Casey and his wife Jennifer, all of Brockton, MA. Additionally, he cherished being a great-grandfather to Cameron, Cora, and Alina, who filled his days with joy and laughter. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jimmy was a brother to the late Richard E. Mahanna and his wife Barbara of Westford, MA. He was the Brother-in-law to Thomas Mansour and his wife Alice of Raynham, MA.
Jimmy will be remembered for his tenacity and kindness, as well as his dedication to his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 8:30 – 9:45 am, in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 am, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 435 West Street, Brockton. Interment with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery.
