O’Shea, of N. Dartmouth, formerly of Brockton and Chatham, November 21, 2006, James L. O’Shea, 92 years. Husband of Juliet (Guisti) (Wright) O’Shea and the late Dorothy (Crooks) O’Shea. Father of Dennis O’Shea of Fort Myers, FL, David O’Shea and his wife Judy of Lawrence and MaryAnn Connors and her husband John of Middleboro. He also leaves six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a sister Marie Murray of W. Bridgewater.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Saturday at 8am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Following cremation burial will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting Hours Friday 5-8pm. Donations in Jim’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Obituary
James L. O’Shea died Tuesday at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after a brief illness. Born and raised in Brockton he was a son of the late Dennis and Mary (Twohig) O’Shea, and was a graduate of Brockton High School. He had been a Prison Guard at Bridgewater Correctional Facility for many years, was head of the State Prison Camps in the 1950’s, Superintendent of the Massachusetts Correctional Facility in Concord for a number of years and later acted as Deputy Commissioner of Corrections serving under Governors Volpe and Sergeant. He was a former president of Local 503, State County and Municipal Employees Association and was chairman of the Mass. State Penal Conference. Following his retirement in the early 1970’s he lived in both Venice, Florida and Chatham, MA.
He loved horseshoe pitching and was the New England Horseshoe Champion seven times and was inducted into the Horseshoe Hall of Fame. He was also an avid golfer, was a member of Englewood Golf Club in Florida and played at various golf courses on Cape Cod.
He is survived by his wife Juliet (Guisti) (Wright) O’Shea, two sons Dennis O’Shea of Fort Myers, FL, David O’Shea and his wife Judy of Lawrence, MA and MaryAnn Connors and her husband John of Middleboro, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a sister Marie Murray of W. Bridgewater, and several nieces and nephews.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Crooks) O’Shea, and brother of the late Daniel O’Shea and Margaret Deely.
