James M. Papanicolaou
James Michael Papanicolaou, 93, of Whitman, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at the Brockton Hospital. He was the husband of the late Matoula (Chacona) Papanicolaou.
Born October 26, 1913 in Aidonia, Greece, he was the son of the late Michael and Vasiliki Papanicolaou. He came to the United States of America to live in Abington in 1933 he then moved to Ithaca, New York and then to Whitman in 1952 where he has been a resident since.
Mr. Papanicolaou worked for several years as a Machinist for Walworth Company in Braintree where he retired. He also had previously owned the Eddy Gate Restaurant in Ithaca, New York and the Rockland Lunch in Rockland.
Mr. Papanicolaou attended the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. He also received a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts from Bridgewater State College at the age of 75. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton. He also taught Greek School in New York.
He is survived by his loving children, Michael J. Papanicolaou and his wife Virginia of Florida, Arete Zivzes and her husband K. John of Whitman, and Vicki Orphanos and her husband John of Falmouth; beloved grandfather and great-grandfather of many. He was the brother of the late Christos Papanicolaou and Glykeria Maranis.

Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Thursday, April 26th at 10:00AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 11:00AM. The Rev. John Kiramarios will officiate. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Donations may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton, MA 02301.
