Obituary

James P. Skenas James P. "Jim" Skenas, 92, of Brockton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the husband for 62 years to Jeannette K. Skenas. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Apostolos Skenas and Mary (Kifisas) Skenas. A lifelong Brockton resident, Jim graduated from Brockton High School, Brockton Business College and Burdett. Jim was the Owner and Treasurer of United Furniture Corporation of Brockton for over 62 years. Jim had Real Estate Holdings in Brockton, Boston, Hyannis, Osterville and St. Petersburgh, Florida. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton where he also served as an officer. He was a former Public Accountant and former President of Ariston Publishing Corporation and the Greek Sunday News. He served on the Brockton Development and Industrial Commission. He was a member and past President of AHEPA Lord Byron Chapter of Brockton. Member of the Advisory Committee to Massasoit Community College and served on the Old Colony Planning Service. He was also a member of the Baalis Sanford Lodge of Brockton. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette K. Skenas of Brockton; his nieces and nephews, Margo E. Daphnis of Wayland, Peter P. Daphnis and his wife Joanne of Westport, James J. Daphnis and his wife Peg Correia of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Diane Maimonis and her husband Dean of Lexington; his great-nieces and nephews, Paul, Nicole, Sophia, Andrew Daphnis, Alexis, Elizabeth, Nicole and Julia Maimonis; his sister-in-law, Marianth Skenas of West Roxbury. He was the brother of the late Helen S. Daphnis and Angelo P. Skenas and he was the uncle of the late Stephanie M. Daphnis. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Monday, October 17th at 10:00AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home on Sunday 2:00-5:00PM.
