James Robert "Bob" Staton of West Bridgewater passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on December 14, 1930, he was the son of the late Jesse James Staton and Sally Stevens. Bob attended Brooklyn, NY public schools. He later moved to Massachusetts where he attended Everett, MA Public Schools then later Northeastern University as well as Berklee College of Music.
Bob served as a corporal in the United States Marines during the Korean War from 1950-1953 then was honorably discharged.
Bob was employed by the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (the "T") from 1956-1991. Over three decades he held various positions including bus driver, train conductor, inspector, and instructor. After retiring from the "T" his hard work ethic and passion for transit led him to work as a bus driver for Brockton Area Transit Company from 1991-2011. Bob finally retired in 2011.
Bob was an enthusiast of many things specifically trains, old school jazz and new cars (preferably black). He became a model railroader where he would transform his entire basement into a detailed train layout. Bob's other passion was boxing where he trained and fought as a lightweight boxer.
He is survived by his loving wife Lana Kathleen, her children and grandchildren, Spencer Key (who he called the son he never had) wife Tammie and a host of family and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 18th from 1-2:30pm in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 S. Main St.(Rt.28), West Bridgewater with a service to follow at 2:30pm. A private burial will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
