James H. Tweedy, 76, of Brockton passed away peacefully Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Life Care Center, West Bridgewater. He was surrounded by his family.
The son of the late Lawrence P. Tweedy and the late Danis Mandigo (Palmer), he was born in Taunton , MA on May 18, 1942 and spent his childhood there as well as several decades of his adult life. He later moved to Brockton upon his marriage to Judith Tweedy (Capozzi) in
1984.
He was a graduate of Taunton High School, Wentworth Institute, and Northeastern University. He became a Fire Protection Engineer and enjoyed his work inspecting buildings to assess fire risks. He worked at Factory Mutual, Inc., AIG , Inc., and Insurance Service Office, Inc. for many years. After retirement, he worked as an Election Poll Inspector and for Old Colony Elder Services delivering Meals on Wheels.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. A lover of animals, he took pleasure in later years spending time with his family and with his faithful dog Emma. He also enjoyed church suppers, clambakes, and Bible Study. He was a person of great faith and had been a longtime member of Winthrop Street Baptist Church in Taunton and was most recently a member Temple Baptist Church in West Bridgewater. He was interested in local and family history and was a repository of facts about the City of Taunton.
Jim was a member of the Gideons International, Elks-Wareham-New Bedford, and Eagles.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Judith Tweedy, his loving daughters Laura Tweedy of Easton, MA, Ann Tweedy, Ann's husband Emanuel Vena, and his grandson Zachary, all of Bonney Lake, Washington. He is also survived by his brothers David Tweedy of Dighton, MA, Paul Tweedy and his wife Betsy Tweedy of Madison, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 29th at 10:00AM in the Temple Baptist Church, 540 Manley St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Calling hours Thursday, March 28th from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 So. Main St.,(Rt.28) West Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1324 Belmont St., #204, Brockton, MA 02301.
