Online Obituaries James R. Williams, 65, of South Easton, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton, MA. Born on June 21, 1952, he was raised in Alexandria, Louisiana where he attended Peabody High School, Class of 1970, excelled academically and played tuba in the marching band. After earning his B.S. in Business from Southern University in 1974, he moved to Ithaca, New York to take a position at NY State Electric Gas where he would work for over 35 years. He married his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Gwen (Battle) Williams in Ithaca on November 30, 1974 where they would raise a family and reside until moving to North Easton, MA in 2012. James was a huge train enthusiast, especially Rock Island and Norfolk Southern. He stayed current with news and weather, was a music and trivia master and forever an Oakland Raiders fan. James is survived by his wife, Gwen Williams; his daughter, Latarsha Stewart and her husband Kevin Stewart; his grandchildren, Khelsea Stewart, Khori Stewart, Marcus Williams and Sydney Stewart; his brothers, Franklin Paul Williams and Mark Carter; his niece, Cyndi Bright and family; his nephew, Adam Williams and family. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Burnell Battle and Victor Battle and his sisters-in-law Debra Davis and Emily Battle as well as a host of other beloved family and friends. James was the proud father of his late son Jonathan Williams and the brother of the late Sandra Bright. Funeral Information Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., (Rt28) West Bridgewater on Saturday, October 28th from 1:00PM-4:00PM. Private cremation to follow.
