Janet A. "Jan" (McKenna) McGarry, 67, of Brockton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center with her husband and daughter at her side. She was the loving wife of John M. McGarry. Born December 14, 1951, in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur McKenna and Emily (Maleski) McKenna. Raised in Taunton, she went to St Mary's School and graduated from Bishop Cassidy High School. She then received her Nursing Degree from Newton Wellesley School of Nursing. After graduating from nursing school Jan worked in Taunton area hospitals before moving to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and working as an RN at Holy Cross Hospital. After several years in Florida, she moved back to Taunton to work at Cardinal Cushing Hospital where she became the Evening Charge Nurse to the love of her life, John. She later transferred to the Brockton Hospital until having her daughter, Katie, in 1981. She was a stay at home mom until the early 90's when she became the School Nurse at the Howard Preschool in Brockton. After several years at the Howard, she moved to Brockton High School where she was a nurse until 2017. Jan was an integral part of the Brockton Jaycees throughout the 90's, playing a huge role in the organization and running of the Haunted Houses, Easter Egg Hunts, and Brockton First Nite. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Red Cross in Brockton for many years. She also was a lunch mom and cooking instructor at the Kennedy School. Jan was a huge supporter and champion for the Music and Drama Department at Brockton High School until her passing. She is survived by her loving husband, John M. McGarry; her loving daughter, Katie M. Fleischer and her husband Phil; her adored grandchildren, Lilly and Archie; her siblings, Tim McKenna and his wife, Phyllis, Kathy McKenna, and Rosie McKenna; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her greatest love was spending time with and supporting her grandchildren, Lilly and Archie. She was the keeper of the gingerbread cookies and M&Ms for the last 5 years. Following Cremation, a Memorial Gathering will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Friday, May 31st from 1:00PM-4:00PM followed by a brief funeral service at 4:00PM.
