IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jay O.
Johnson
February 9, 1958 – March 16, 2025
Jay Oscar Johnson, age 68, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, after a long illness. He was born on February 9, 1958, in Brockton, Massachusetts.
Jay grew up in the close-knit town of West Bridgewater, The family home on North Main Street became a cherished gathering place, complete with a camper, minibikes, snowmobiles, animals, a pool and even a big yellow school bus. Jay took pride in mowing the lawn, once carving his initials into the grass for all the town to see—an early glimpse of the humor and personality he would become known for. Jay's love for the arts emerged early, playing the saxophone and participating in theater productions in high school, developing a deep appreciation for music, drama, and self-expression that stayed with him throughout his life.
That same creative spirit led Jay to a successful 40-year career as a hairstylist. He began working at Zahmats in Duxbury, where he built a loyal clientele and a reputation for artistry and connection. Eventually, Jay opened his own salon—Hello Gorgeous—in Brockton, fulfilling a lifelong dream. After closing the salon, he continued his work at Dramatics in West Bridgewater until his retirement. Jay's clients often became friends, and he took great pride in helping others feel confident and seen.
Jay was soft-spoken, quick-witted, and incredibly funny. Whether road-tripping on vacation or just running an errand, being with Jay was always an adventure. His infectious laughter, sharp humor, and playful spirit turned the simplest moments into lasting memories. If you ever wondered what he was thinking, all you had to do was look into his big brown eyes, which always told the story. He was a great friend—kind, warm, and always ready to bring joy and fun to those around him.
Jay was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Joan (Powers) Johnson and Oscar Sanford Johnson, as well as his brother, James Johnson. He is survived by his niece and grand nephew, Sara Johnson and Nicholas of Somerset, as well as many cousins and countless friends who will remember him fondly. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, creativity, and genuine warmth that will live on in all who knew him.
A private service will be held.
