Jean Marie Comeau (Lanigan), 95, of Bridgewater, West Yarmouth, and Arlington, passed away peacefully at home on December 30, 2021 surrounded by her children. Born to William and Irene Lanigan on January 17, 1926, she grew up on Fairmont Street in Arlington and went on to raise her own family on the very same street. She met her husband Jerry in junior high school when he asked to copy her homework. They married in 1948 and she became the proud and devoted mother to six children. Her children can attest to the fact that she had the patience of a saint and never lost her temper or even raised her voice. Jean was a smart, sweet, and strong woman. She read the newspaper from front to back every day and was always in the middle of a new novel. She enjoyed simple pleasures such as watching the Red Sox, eating seafood on Cape Cod, and catching up with friends and family via letter writing and phone calls. She had a kind word, a smile, and a prayer for everyone. And she had a quiet strength even when times were tough. She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Comeau to whom she was married for 66 years, as well as her son William Justin Comeau and her sisters Claire Sullivan and Barbara Lanigan. She is survived by her children: Cheryl and Ed Donahue of Harwich, Elaine and Henry Arseneault of Arlington, Diane and Bruce Baker of Bridgewater, Robert Comeau of Bridgewater, and Paul Comeau of Brookline. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kerry and John McLaughlin, Michele and David Coughlin, Amy and Michael Ritchie, Sean and Katie Donahue, Erin and Brett Barry, Danielle and Michael Ricketts, Brian Baker, Michael Baker, and eleven great grandchildren. Jean was calm and serene in her Catholic faith and she was full of grace in all aspects of her life. To know her was to love and admire her and she will be held forever in the hearts of her family. Jean will be greatly missed but her influence will be everlasting. A memorial mass will be held in St. Basil Chapel (at Bridgewater State University), 122 Park Avenue, Bridgewater on Tuesday, January 11th at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private.
