Jean Stewart
Jean A. Stewart, 78, of Rockland died Friday, April 17, 2009 at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health.
Born July 4, 1930 in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell H. Stewart and Edna (Ellis) Stewart. She was raised in Brockton and was a graduate of Brockton High School. Jean was a woman of great strength, independence and dignity.
Born during the Great Depression, she learned the value of hard work early in life. As a child she lost a brother and sister, yet they continued to live on through her stories. She never had children of her own, but she was a mother to her sister and a grandmother to her nieces. Jean never spent an unnecessary dime on herself. She saved for the purpose of leaving something behind; again taking care of her family better than she took care of herself.
She was fiercely loyal to her friends. When her friends aged, she visited and took them to church or dinner weekly. Jean never missed a chance to let them know she cared. She was a favorite of her doctors, nurses and caregivers. Jean will always be remembered and loved for the person she was and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her brother, David R. Stewart of Plymouth; her sister, Mary C. Rogers of Rockland; her nieces, Angela J. Obrien of Fall River, Jennifer L. Brockhoff of KY. She is also survived by four great nieces. She was the sister of the late Maxwell H. Stewart, Jr. and Madelyne E. Stewart.
