At the age of 15, she earned 25 cents an hour working in the factory pulling threads off of material. Joan graduated from Girls High School in 1954 and she was the first one in her family on both sides to earn a high school diploma.
After high school, Joan started working for 75 cents in factories and then in her late 30s went back to school to further her education. She was known for attending church services, listening to blues and jazz music, cooking dynamic meals, while raising her glass of Remy Martin. Joan missed the classroom life and decided to return as an Adjunct Professor at Massasoit Community College.
Joan was a passionate and animated firecracker who loved entertaining her family and friends and being on the telephone for hours. She would host many events including her annual Christmas Eve dinners. These events were always memorable and entertaining. She simply loved bringing people together. Joan was known to wear her seasonal colors from her signature wardrobe, and she even had the variety of hairstyles and nails to match.
