With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of João Pedro Gomes Andrade, affectionately known as "João de Djoca", age 74, of Brockton, MA. João passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025. He was born in São Filipe Fogo, Cabo Verde, to the late Joaquim Andrade and Isabel Gomes on June 22, 1950.
A devoted husband and father, beloved family member, and respected friend, João's presence brought warmth and strength to all who knew him.
João served with honor in the Portuguese military, where he was a member of the 1st Heavy Infantry Battalion and was stationed in Angola during his service years. His dedication, courage, and unwavering commitment to his family and community will always be remembered.
João was a hardworking and dedicated professional, spending over 15 years in the warehousing and manufacturing industry. He worked as a Shipper/Receiver and Machine Operator at U.S. Repeating Arms in Hingham, MA, where he took pride in his role, ensuring quality and efficiency in his work. His skills and dedication earned him the respect of his colleagues, and he always valued teamwork and precision in his craft.
He leaves behind his wife, Tereza (Mamazinha) De Jesus Pires Galvão Andrade, and his children, Isabel Andrade, Dr. Ana-Tereza Kabira and her husband Stephen Kabira, Ruthy Barros and her husband Adalberto Barros, Raquel Thompson and her husband Tyereak Thompson, and his youngest, Sarah Andrade. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, Alexander Barros, Olivia Barros, Viviana Kabira, Christopher James Kabira, Leah Thompson, Emma Thompson, Jaylen Andrade-Kelly, Anton Franklin, and Anthony Franklin. João is also survived by four brothers and one sister and was preceded in death by one brother. Along with his family, João leaves behind many dear friends who will cherish his memory forever.
Services to Honor João's Life
Calling hours celebrating his life will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt. 123) Brockton, MA, on Friday, February 21, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, February 22, at 10:30 AM at OUR LADY OF LOURDES CHURCH, 439 WEST ST., Brockton, MA. Interment will follow at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton, and the repass will be held at OUR LADY OF LOURDES.
