Joao Jose Mendes, 88, of Brockton, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020. He was the husband of Maria Fernandes DePina Mendes. Born in Sao Filipe, Cape Verde on October 30, 1931, he was the son of the late Mateus Jose Mendes and Julia (Correia) Mendes. Joao loved Cape Verdean music and watching old movies. In addition to his wife Maria, Joao is survived by his children Maria "Oriza" Mendes, Benilde Mendes, Maria "Rosa" Mendes, Jose Mendes and Julia Mendes; and many grandchildren. Funeral from the Russell and Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont Street (Rt. 123) Brockton on Thursday, October 1st at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. Edith Stein Parish, 71 East Main Street, Brockton at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
