John J. Cataldo of Lakeville, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 surrounded by family after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Leanne B. (Homer) Cataldo and caring uncle of Ashley (Jenkins) Murphy of Middleboro and Ryan Jenkins of Lakeville.

John was born November 9, 1946 in Boston and was predeceased by his parents, John R Cataldo and Mary (Mulkerron) Cataldo of Roslindale and sisters Kathleen Cataldo of Kanas City and Margaret (Cataldo) Chipman of Plymouth. He is survived by his brother Joseph Cataldo of Hubbardston and sister Marianne (Cataldo) Murphy of North Andover and many nieces and nephews.

John retired from the Mass Highway Department after 37 years of service and was well respected and loved by all for his incredible work ethic, commitment to the department and especially his compassion and friendship for his fellow employees.

John was extremely devoted to all family. His friends became family and therefore he was completely committed to them as well. To all, John was a loving, generous and giving, husband, brother, uncle and friend.

John was a devote catholic and his faith never waivered as he struggled all of his health issues; rather it gave him strength to endure all he faced. Once John was no longer able to attend mass in person, he always attended virtually by watching mass on TV.

In earlier days, John was an avid pilot and flew a number of small engine planes. He would often tell stories of the joy it brought him when flying. John's interest in cars continued throughout his life and he was always a wealth of knowledge for anyone needing help buying, maintaining or fixing cars.

Calling hours will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 17 Main St. (Rt.105), Lakeville on Saturday, January 14th from 8:30-9:30 AM followed by a memorial mass at Sts. Martha and Mary Church, 354 Bedford St., Lakeville at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Middleboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Kidney Foundation of to St. Jude's Children hospital.
