John William Dzenawagis, 73, of Marstons Mills, MA, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026 at the nursing home where he resided in Stoughton, MA. He lived his final years with Lewy Body Dementia and inspired all those around him with his enduring optimism and gratitude and by always making the best of the challenges that came his way through the many difficult phases of his disease. He maintained his kind, friendly, and light-hearted nature and sense of humor until the very end.
Born to Charles and Edna Dzenawagis in Brockton, MA on February 7, 1953, John was a 1971 graduate of Brockton High School. He worked as an assistant manager at Cirelli Foods in Brockton before marrying his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Donna, and moving down to Cape Cod where they lived for many years and raised their two children, Danne and Sean.
John worked as a deliveryman for Frito Lay for over 20 years and was lovingly referred to as “The Chip Man” by all the neighborhood kids. He briefly owned his own house painting business before becoming a crew member at Trader Joe’s in Hyannis where he worked for 14 years until his retirement in 2019.
John was loved by all who knew him and is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna Dzenawagis (O’Connell), daughter Danne Dzenawagis and son-in-law Dan Kaplan, son Sean Dzenawagis and daughter-in-law Meredith VandenBerg, grandson Zane Kaplan, sister Susan Fedele and brother-in-law Steven Fedele, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors who will all miss the light he brought to their lives dearly. He was preceded in death by his brother Alan Dzenawagis who passed away in 2004.
In his honor, slow clap and let out a cheer the next time the Red Sox hit a home run, sing along to your favorite songs whenever you get the chance, spark up a conversation with a stranger, express gratitude for all the blessings in your life, and “Make it a great day,” John’s favorite saying.
There will be a funeral mass at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville on June 10, 2026 at 11 a.m. The family welcomes all who knew and loved John to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jason Fedele Memorial Scholarship Fund.
