John Frederick Gonsalves, of Brockton, MA, passed away peacefully, in his home, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the age of 80. John was known as "Johnny" to friends and family.
He was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, on October 1, 1941, to Manuel S. Gonsalves and Mary N. Santos.
As a young boy, he and his family moved to Massachusetts, where he attended Boston Schools.
As a tractor trailer driver, he enjoyed traveling all over New England, and worked for the United States Postal Service for nearly 30 years, making many good friends along the way.
Johnny loved fishing (especially fly fishing,) boating, nature, and spending time with his children outdoors. Monponsett Pond was a favorite spot for him.
He also loved Native American culture, and attending Pow Wows. He was a very loving and caring father, who was always there for his children, when we needed him. Johnny loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor.
He loved to sing and had a beautiful voice.
During the last several years of his life, he enjoyed visiting La Selette, and spending time with friends.
Johnny lived in Brockton, Massachusetts for over 40 years, and loved spending time with his neighbors and friends, particularly his friend Santos, who he loved and appreciated dearly.
Johnny is survived by his three loving children, John Gonsalves, Alexander Gonsalves, and Juliana Gonsalves Negron, as well as 3 grandchildren, Alexander Gonsalves II, Jason Gonsalves, Alejandro "Santana" Negron, one great grandchild, Alexander Michael "AJ" Gonsalves III, several nieces and nephews. and his older brother, Sonny Gonsalves.
Johnny was deeply loved, and will be sincerely missed and remembered, daily, by his family and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, March 3rd from 11:00AM to 1:00PM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 So. Main Street, (Rt.28) West Bridgewater.
