Obituary

John Pratt, age 80, of Middleboro, formerly of Brockton and Standish, ME, Passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 24, 2021. John Pratt, MHA, FACHA, was born in Chelsea, Vermont to Elmer and Olive Pratt. The third of their four children, he joined Wendell and Joanne, then becoming big brother to Richard. John was educated in Chelsea schools, furthering his education at the University of Vermont and receiving his Master's Degree from the University of Michigan. Spending more than 25 years as a hospital administrator, he was also a professor of health care at Stonehill College. In 1989 he moved to Maine and joined Saint Joseph's College. He was responsible for the Baccalaureate programs in Long Term Care Administration and Health Care Administration. He was the founder of the Long Term Care Management Institute at the college. He served on the Education Committee of the National Association of Boards of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators and was a frequent presenter at American College of Health Care Administrator conventions nationwide. John was the recipient of many notable honors, such as his appointment as judge in the annual Optima Awards Program, and various state and institutional citations. He was a frequent contributor to numerous professional periodicals. John had several editions of his book "Long-Term Care Managing Across the Continuum" published, with a recent new edition just in print. John married Margaret Mackoul in 1965 and became amazing father to Karen and Christine. He was an extra special Grandpa to Erinn Cavanagh, Karly Randall, Elysse Otis, Drew Randall, Zachary Otis and Cameron Otis. His great grandchildren Julian and Mia Gallo were the light of his life over the last few years. John was not only impactful to his immediate family but to nieces and nephews also. One such, a special place was held for his nephew Lance Macmaster. "Uncle John" was an inspiration of character and integrity on which Lance based his life. John will be missed by all who loved him. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. He will have a private burial alongside his parents in his hometown of Chelsea, VT.
