IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John J.
Rooney
May 24, 1936 – April 5, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John J. Rooney, affectionately known as 'Rambo' to his friends. John was a lifelong resident of Brockton, Massachusetts, who passed away peacefully a month shy of his 89 birthday. John, a proud Korean War veteran, was a man of deep integrity, honor, and commitment.
Born and raised in Brockton, John was a steadfast member of the community, whose legacy of service and dedication will be cherished by all who knew him. A veteran of the United States Army, John served with Company C, 1st Battalion, 9940th Training Unit at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. His bravery and commitment to his country during a time of great uncertainty exemplified the values of courage and sacrifice. John carried the experiences of his service with grace, and he remained a proud and humble veteran throughout his life.
After his time in the service, John returned to Brockton. John retired from the post office after 28 years as a letter carrier in Boston neighborhoods. John enjoyed watching many sports. His true passion was NFL football and the Patriots. John would recite stats of players and accurately pick each weeks winners with amazing accuracy, winning many football pools.
John was predeceased by his parents, Roger & Florence, his twin brothers Roger and Robert, and his sister Barbara. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the caregivers and friends at the Brockton VA and Mass General Hospital who provided support and comfort during John's final time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Veteran's charity in his honor.
John's memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of service, compassion, and love will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, 'Rambo'. Thank you for your service
