John W. Sexton
, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, just a few days short of his 94th birthday. He was the loving and devoted husband for 64 years to the late Eileen T. (Baynes) Sexton.
John grew up in Whitman before moving to Brockton upon his marriage to Eileen. He retired from the Boston Gear Works in 1983. He was very patriotic and proudly served his country for four years during WWII as a member of the 86th Blackhawk Infantry Division in the European and Pacific theaters. When the war ended, he found and liberated his brother Edward from a Natzi Prisoner of War camp in Germany. John was the recipient of the Bronze Star and several other medals for bravery and service to the country he loved. John enjoyed people and had a great sense of humor always leaving them with a smile. He especially loved his big night out at the Cape Cod Cafe with his family and friends and was an expert at the running gag.
John is survived by this children Kathleen A. Burke, Diane F. Dobson and her husband Paul, John J. Sexton and his wife Catherine; his grandchildren Erin E. (Burke) Lyons and her husband Mark, Maura A. (Burke) Romaniak and her husband Jamie, Julie A. Dobson, Michael G. Dobson, Matthew J. Dobson, Nicholas Sexton, Katie Anne Sexton, Amanda Sexton; great grandchildren Alivia E. Romaniak, Landon, Jameson; and his sister Helen Phillips. He was predeceased by his brother Edward J. Sexton and sister Mary Ferbert.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 12:30PM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt.123) Brockton. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:30PM. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4:00-7:00PM.
