John J. Smith John J. Smith , 76, of Brockton, passed away Monday, December 21, 2009 at Sachem Rehabilitation Center in East Bridgewater. He was the husband of 55 years to Marie (Rue) Smith. Born January 12, 1933 in Boston, he was the son of the late Joseph Smith and Iola Maye (Payne) Smith. Raised in Boston he attended Boston Schools and Boston Trade School. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. John worked at Boston City Hospital as a general laborer for several years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, singing, telling animated stories, and penuckle. John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie (Rue) Smith; his children, Michelle J. Smith, Mark J. Smith and his wife Pamela, Marla J. Smith-Akumanyi and her husband Eric and Jennifer J.J. Smith-Workman and her husband Robert; he is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews. He joins in Glory his late sons, Michael and Jeffrey Smith; his grandson, John T. Smith and his sisters, Ethel and Gloria. Funeral Information Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Wednesday, December 30th from 4:00-7:00PM followed by a prayer service in the funeral home at 7:00PM.
