John W. Hayes, age 84, of Brockton, passed away on March 30, 2026, at Boston Medical Center–South in Brockton.

Born in Somerville, John was the beloved son of the late John J. and Bertha (Pierce) Hayes. He was raised and educated in Billerica and spent his working career as a draftsman in the mechanical engineering industry, a profession he dedicated many years to with pride and skill.

John was the devoted husband of Julie M. (McDonough) Hayes and a loving father to his children, Kathy Wildes and her husband Peter of Abington and John J. “Joe” Hayes of East Bridgewater. He was a proud grandfather to Christian Hanley, Abby Kiernan, and Kevin Hayes, whom all brought him great joy. Loyal brother to late Loraine Maroney and survived by many nieces and nephews.

A man known for his loyalty and generosity, John would do anything for anyone, especially if you needed something fixed. More than anything else, he deeply loved his family and cherished the time spent with them.

John was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed following the Atlanta Braves, New York Giants, and Boston Bruins. He was also one of the founders of Brockton Youth Soccer, reflecting his commitment to Brockton youth athletics. Following his retirement, he enjoyed travelling with his wife Julie, children, and grandchildren. He was able to travel to all states but one (South Dakota).

No public services but the family will hold a private Celebration of life.
